Just wondering…

You know how you go to a bar or party or club with friends and there is this one person (mostly drunk) buying drinks/shots for everyone? Normally he/she won’t let you say no and will insist that everyone has a shot irrespective of whether they want it or like it. And obviously this person is given the ‘Such a nice person!’ compliment. Thats totally cool n all that. What happens if, the next time I’m at a dinner part with friends, I order a plate of spinach and shove it down everyone’s throats? Thats cool too? Just wondering…

Im sure your parents taught you to stay away from ‘bad habits’ like smoking, drinking and doing drugs. If health affecting addictive actions are what define bad habits, then are junk food addicts as bad as alcohol or smoke addicts? I mean, they hurt themselves, they are unable to stay away from junk, it affects their work, concentration, energy, sex life, time with kids and people have even emptied their savings and sold their cars/houses to get enough money for food! So… ‘my obese son/daughter has no bad habits, but is a junk food addict’ is a legit statement? Just wondering…

Ever seen people serve food to diabetics or healthy eaters? ‘Have a piece of cake/sweet/candy. We know you’re diabetic but one piece won’t kill you!’ Ummm… why? I mean, why? Just to be nice? Can I force vegetarians to eat some chicken wings just to be nice? Will that be cool? Just wondering…

If you can buy a piece of land today and I guarantee you that it will be worth 300% its value in 5 years, will you do it? If you can learn about nutrition today and I guarantee you that this will reduce your healthcare costs in life by 80%, will you do it? Just wondering…

If you’re in debt, would you randomly spend a chunk of cash on something unnecessary just because it makes you happy for that moment? Then, if you are fat, why would you randomly eat something unhealthy just because it makes you happy for that moment? Just wondering…

Whats the deal with appetizers? First of all, do we really need more food to appetize us? Secondly, from when did appetizers mean random fried junk? Thirdly, when was the last time you ate an appetizer and felt appetized? Just wondering…

Why do not many people read blog posts during the weekend? Is it ‘cos they’re not chained to a desk and forced to act like they’re doing something on the computer? Just wondering…

I have a friend whose child is allergic – face will balloon if he touches egg shell allergic – to eggs. At parties, apparently she gets forced to give the child some cake – just a little bit only – and made to feel like a heel when she declines. Once she even heard “arrey do all your dieting-shieting later na, let the poor child have some cake”!
Doesn’t THAT take the cake (pun intended)?

After reading this post, I feel like I shld stand up and say:
“My name is Lavanya and I eat unhealthy food.”

thats terrible bout your friend! i cant wait for a time when someone tries to feed my kid crap. its gonna be fun.

and Lavanya – No. you dont belong to the unhealthy group. healthy is not eating clean 100% of the time. healthy is knowing nutrition and making the right choices most of the time. more on this in a latter post.

Great post bro! I’ve had similar thoughts – you look at someone smoking and don’t hesitate to tell them why it is a bad habit, but telling a fat dude to put the burger down is uncouth?! Am gonna do it, one of these days. After all, there’s no way aforementioned fat-dude can catch me 🙂

Hahaha…Aravind…let us know the story if you do say that to a fat person

    • RG July 15, 2011 at 10:58 am

this is the difference… – just the act of smoking is unhealthy. meaning, there is no way smoking can be healthy in any way. so you can walk up to any person and tell him what hes doing is crap. – junk food, on the other hand, is only poison if overconsumed. the fat guy can very well tell you hes on a diet and this is his only meal for a day. or that he is eating his first burger in 3 months.

and watch out… powerlifter and wrestlers are fat too. you def dont want to ask them to drop down them burgers! and yes, they will catch you 😉

Raj, good point about the weekend reading blog thing – but there is more positive side to it…people are busy with chores and moving their butt around getting things done…isnt that a good thing ?
Very insightful comparison of debt to fat-ness.

Forcing unhealthy food down somebody’s throat is really sad. But nevertheless, this is real. More education in nutrition and possibly some instruction on better ways to show their affections, could probably be the solution.
