Workout 6th July ’10 (with Video)

Great workout today. Elbow starting to feel better so started doing some light weight presses.

This was my workout today…

1.5 mile run

Rest 3-4 mins. Then…

5 rounds for time…

10 Single Dumbbell Thrusters @ 40 lbs

5 Single Dumbbell One Arm Deadlift @ 40 lbs

5 Single Dumbbell Snatch @ 40 lbs

5 Reverse Woodchopper @ 40 lbs

Time for Dumbbell Complex: 11:25

After all 5 rounds rest 3-4 mins. Then…

100 m sprint, 100 m walk x 5

This is a video of me doing round 1 of the dumbbell complex.

Raj’s Dumbbell Complex Video

As you can see the first round took only 90 seconds… but things got progressively hard and it took me another 10 mins for the remaining 4 rounds! Pretty awesome workout though. Left me on the floor! But am glad my endurance is getting better slowly. FYI… the reverse wood chopped is ALL core! You will feel it when you do it.

Vidya did a similar workout. She did the run & sprints with me with a slightly modified complex.

5 rounds for time…

10 Single Dumbbell Thrusters @ 25 lbs

10 Single Dumbbell One Arm Deadlift @ 25 lbs

(1 Proper Push-up, 1 Knee Push-up) x 5

Total time: 11:45

She died… but killed the workout before that!

    Good workout Raj and Vidya!
I did a similar one for my conditioning workout today
    20 pushups, 10 thrusters (25lbs), 10 reverse wood choppers (25lbs) x 5 rounds

200m run before and after the workout

    Total: 100 pushups, 50 thrustersm 50 reverse wood choppers, 400m – 17mins

This served as a good conditioning + active recovery for me especially after the heavy deadlifts yesterday 🙂

Hey Raj – First off, love your blog! 🙂

I have been doing a fair bit of long distance & cycling last few years (on an avg 2-3M of running weekdays and longer during weekends esp while training for races) + stretching but never really used weights. I just don’t know where to start.

I don’t even know if I need to but your blog is doing a good job convincing me otherwise. Where do you think I can begin?

Meera… thank you much! I’m a big fan of your blog too 🙂 Need to talk to you one of these days.

About weight training. Yes mam… really and truly should weight train! I’m in the process of writing a blogpost about weight training and why its super important for women to weight train. Until that comes out… just take my word for it 🙂

As for where to start… this is exactly where I’d like you to start…

Let me know how challenging or easy you find these and we’ll take it from there.
